Last week the Walking Football Association (WFA) addressed some confusion around personal accident insurance cover for players of registered clubs.
We covered the WFA’s Player Accident & Injury Insurance a few months back. Judging by the number of questions we received back then, the subject of player injury insurance is a tricky one to understand!
If you haven’t seen the recent WFA email (2 April 2026), we’ll cover the main points here for you. The title of the email was Time to end any confusion and started with:
All players registered with affiliated clubs are covered by personal accident insurance — regardless of whether they participate in competitive fixtures such as the National Cup. This is one of the key advantages of club affiliation.”
DSWFC have been affiliated members of the WFA for a number of years now. We most recently renewed our membership at the beginning of this month.
Main points of WFA Player Accident Cover
As mentioned in the email, these are the main points you need to be aware of about the WFA Player Accident & Injury Insurance cover:
- Players will be insured for all WFA events, leagues and tournaments
- Insured for all WFA approved events, tournaments and leagues
- Players will be insured for friendly matches and all training sessions
- Cover runs from April 1st to March 31st annually – clubs should renew their affiliation every year to retain insurance for their players.
- Insured players that play for more than one club will be covered playing for both clubs
- The cover also extends to playing WFA approved games in Europe
- Cover all ages up to and including 85 years of age
They sign off the email by saying… “Hopefully this clears up any confusion, but if you have further questions, please contact memberships@thewfa.co.uk.”
