Strong start to 2024 (off the pitch at least!)

Despite recent on-field results being disappointing, the strength of Dexter Sports Walking Football Club continues to grow off the field.

Growing Membership Base

In the January committee meeting, Dave was pleased to announce our membership had grown to over 50 people. With 36 of those making themselves available for tournaments – that’s a 50% increase on the 24 we had available in August 2023.

With so many new recruits, we saw a record number of people attend training on 26 January. 25 players were there to take part in a four team mini round-robin, followed by a coaching session.

Increased Knowledge

Talking of training, we’re pleased to have added a qualified coach to our squad. Darren has completed the FA Level Three Coaching Course (which has now been replaced by the UEFA B Licence). He’s given up his time, effort and knowledge for the betterment of our club, and we’re very grateful for that.

Additionally, one of our squad recently volunteered to attend a refereeing course for walking football. That knowledge can only help contribute to our understanding of the game and eek out some further improvements as a result.

Online Presence

As well as increasing our membership and building our knowledge, we’ve been busy creating a revised and refreshed online presence. At the moment our efforts are focussed on the new website (which you’re reading now) and our Facebook page.

Since the launch of our dedicated website in early December, we’ve been building the amount of information you can find here, and we’ll continue to develop and improve it as time goes on. As well as league tables, FAQs and tournament reports, we’ve also published articles around health subjects such as Dry January, Dementia and mental health awareness.

Facebook

Our Facebook page was launched a couple of weeks after the website. At the moment we have 94 followers. That might not sound many, but we’re looking to increase that number by joining in with walking football chat online, interacting with other walking football clubs and sharing what we’re up to regularly. If you haven’t already, please follow us to show your support and be up to date with all DSWFC updates.

The physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise are well known. If you’re interested in playing football in a friendly, safety first environment, get in touch with Dexter Sports Walking Football Club now…
