The Dorset Walking Football League 60s campaign kicked off in fine fashion, as our squad travelled to Weymouth for the highly anticipated opening round of the 2026/27 season. With dry weather and broken clouds overhead, it was an action-packed afternoon of walking football that marked Tom Deady’s first tournament in charge of our 60s.
Accidents on the way to the ground caused a delayed kick-off, meaning each match was reduced to 20 minutes from the normal 25. Despite the chaotic buildup, captain Paul Gillis led an eight-man squad to a fantastic, unbeaten afternoon of football, securing five points to sit comfortably in 3rd place in the league table.

📰 Tournament review
Dexters 1-0 Marnhull
Stuart Katon marked his walking football debut in style, scoring the winner from a John Gray assist. The match wasn’t without drama, as Dave Lodge had a goal disallowed for not walking. To make matters worse, that infraction counted as our fourth non-walking offence, triggering a harsh-looking penalty against us. However, Steve Bailey came to the rescue with a vital spot-kick save to preserve the hard-earned win!
Dexters 0-0 Dorchester
This was a tight, tactical stalemate defined by penalty box drama. Both sides were awarded a penalty for area encroachment by a defender. Steve pulled off his second superb penalty save in as many matches to deny Dorchester, but unfortunately, we also missed our own opportunity from the spot, leaving the points shared.
Dexters 1-1 Weymouth
Our final fixture was the toughest of the day against a very good Weymouth team who asked serious questions by going 1-0 up. Instead of dropping our heads, the boys dug deep and produced some of their best football of the day. The persistence paid off when Peter Kane unleashed an absolute bullet of a shot to level the score and cap off a brilliant, undefeated start to the campaign.

📢 DSWFC quotes
A fantastic day’s football from our 60s boys. All 8 players’ performances were top notch today. Our brilliant keeper Steve Bailey was my player of the tournament with two vital penalty saves. A very well done boys, you were all magnificent today.
Only one negative was the 10 running offences over 3 games. That’s something we need to be very aware of this season. Also, a big thanks to Andy Madden and Darren Snell for their support today!”
Tom Deady, DSWFC 60s Manager

League Overview
After the first round of league matches, each team have played three matches in the Dorset Walking Football League. Including us, three teams remain unbeaten. Joining us are last seasons top two – defending champions Bournemouth Reds (W3 D0 L0) and Eastleigh (W2 D1 L0).
Three teams are on four points having won one, drawn one and lost one. In fourth spot is Weymouth with a +3 goal difference – a four nil win against Wimborne B in match one certainly helped on that front. Directly behind them with identical records are Sherborne and Bournemouth Whites.
In their debut DWFL tournament, Marnhull collected a win against Wimborne B (2-1), who themselves are propping up the early table along with their clubmates, Wimborne A, who drew two of their three matches, the same as Dorchester.
