With an unchanged squad from Round Three, our 60s made the familiar trip to Dorchester Sports Centre for Round Four of the Dorset Walking Football League. The weather wasn’t kind, but the squad was upbeat after some recent good performances.
For the first time in a while (possibly ever!) our 60s took the same squad of players to two consecutive league tournaments. Indeed, since the start of last season, John (Gray) and Mark Sanderson haven’t missed a 60s League Tournament – that’s ten in-a-row.

DSWFC Tournament Report
Tournament report by John Gray and Simon Allen
The days four fixtures would take in all aspects of the league, from Bournemouth Reds at the top, to Dorchester at the bottom and two teams in between (Wimborne and Bournemouth Whites).
The day started with a goalless draw against Wimborne, who had Pete Cherryman in their starting line-up. It was a tight game with chances for both sides, but everyone had to be content with a point a piece. The result was an improvement for us over the 0-1 defeat back in November.
Up next were Bournemouth Whites. We played with confidence and deservedly won 2-0 with strikes from Andy Wilson (his first of the season) and Brian hooper (his second). This was also an improvement on the reverse fixture earlier in the season, which ended in a 1-1 draw. It was also our first win in six matches since beating Dorchester in mid-November.
Our hosts, Dorchester, were our third opponents of the afternoon. We played our best football of the day, but both goalies were in superb form, especially Dorchesters. Our own ‘keeper Dave Bacall, made an outstanding double save to keep us in the game and earn our second goalless draw of the day.
So that was a win and two draws ahead of our final match against top-of-the-table Bournemouth Reds. Again, it was a tight game of few chances, but Bournemouth took theirs when they came and won 2-0. That was a shame, especially considering we’d drawn 0-0 back in Round Two.
On reflection, we played our best football of the season in some challenging conditions for all the teams. I appreciate all the hard work the squad put into their performances today. Many thanks to support on the sidelines from Snelly and Gary, and appreciated the presence of Andy Madden for his support, although he wasn’t able to play.”
John Gray, DSWFC 60s Manager
I thought all the lads played well today – some really good, patient football. We are improving month-on-month and only lost against Bournemouth Reds from two moments of losing concentration and focus. A special mention for Dave in goal – he didn’t have too much to do, but some magnificent saves when he did.”
Paul Gillis, DSWFC 50s and 60s player
From what I saw, there was some good interchanging of positions around the pitch and some good passing and awareness because of it. They were unlucky with the way the draws happened, but on another day, it could of have been different and those draws are wins.”
Darren Snell, DSWFC 50s player and Dorset 60s Manager

Updated after League Round Four 2025/26 (15 February 2026)
League Overview
Dorchester were briefly off bottom after a 1-0 win over Bournemouth Whites, but then Swanage beat third place Weymouth to put The Magpies bottom again. Since Christmas they’ve won two, drawn four and lost just two. Prior to December their record was W0, D2, L6.
Bournemouth Reds won all four of their matches on the day for the first time this season, including inflicting Eastleigh’s first loss of 2025/26. It was a terrible day for Weymouth – they beat bottom of the table Dorchester in the opening match before losing the next two, and then again to Swanage who were bottom at that point.
