The Dexter Sports 50s Walking Football Team travelled to Weymouth on Sunday 15 January for the third round of ties in the Dorset Walking Football League, where the weather was bitterly cold, barely rising above 4°C.
Here you can read an overview of the matches and progress being made, through the eyes of 50s Manager, Andy Madden.
Dexter Sports 0-1 Sherborne
There were few chances for either side, but there was great improvement in our protection of the ball, keeping decent possession most of the game. In previous rounds we’ve been guilty of giving the ball away in critical areas of the pitch, but there was not much evidence of that in this match.
The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw until a long range shot from Sherborne found its way through our defence, wrong footing Dave in goal. An unfortunate loss.
Dexter Sports 1-1 Verwood
The first half was probably Dexters best performance of the season with some slick passing and good movement into space. Leading 1-0 at half time was a fair reflection of the game.
Verwood were stronger in the second half but we defended well until just a minute from full time, when we lost our men enabling them to equalise. A disappointing result considering our first half dominance.

Matchday Squad
Mark Sanderson, Marcello Giordano, Paul Gillis (captain), David Lodge, Ash Hammond, David Bacall and Darren Snell
Performance Overview
There’s some evidence that the competitive nature of league matches weighs heavy on us and there remains the need for increased consistency in passing and transferring the confidence of Friday night training sessions to league days. Nevertheless, there are a number of encouraging signs, not least in our communication which improves game-by-game.
Dexter Sports Over 50s Walking Football team are now off the bottom of the table and there are certainly winnable matches ahead which should result in a steady climb towards the top half.
