2025: The year that was…

Created with Sketch.

Dexter Sports Walking Football Club (DSWFC) continued to mature during 2025. Whether that was on the pitch or behind the scenes, we continue to create a strong club which will support local walking football for years to come.

Take a look at the DSWFC timeline of events and achievements for 2025 below. Remember how we kept smashing our record attendance figures for training, or when we started training twice a week, and what about Billy cycling the length of the country?

Take a look at our memories from 2025…

28 January 2025

Dorset call ups

Peter Kaye (left) and Paul Gillis (right) were both called up to the Dorset 60s squad to play Oxfordshire. At the time this was quite a result for DSWFC.

1 February 2025

New record training attendance

We achieved a new record number of attendees at Friday night training. 28 players turned up at the County Ground in Hamworthy.

9 February 2025

A sad day: Vinnie Wright

How the 50s league tournament ended on 9 February 2025 will live long in the memory of those who were there. Vinnie Wright tragically passed away while representing Amesbury Walking Football Club.

250 Facebook followers

Just 16 months after launching our new online accounts, we reached 250 followers on Facebook.

17 April 2025

Successful debut season for our 65s

At the end of the 65s Dorset Walking Football League we were pleased and encouraged to have finished third in our debut season. 🎖️

25 April 2025

(Another) New record training attendance

Just a few weeks after an attendance of 28 to training, we smashed that in late April with 32 attending. At the time of writing in early 2026, this record still stands.

Maybe we need to introduce more training sessions? 🤔

27 April 2025

60s end season with room for improvement

Our 60s squad finished the season bottom of the Dorset Walking Football League, which was obviously disappointing. But, the whole squad were looking forward with confidence that progress will be made.

5 May 2025

More training sessions introduced

Just over a week after a record attendance for training, we introduced a second night of weekly training. The fantastic new 4G pitch at Learoyd Road in Canford Heath has become our Monday evening training ground.

The new facility was officially opened by Poole Mayor in May 2025. Take a look at our DSWFC Learoyd Road Google Business page to find out more.

11 May 2025

South Wiltshire Cup Runners-up

Our 50s squad lost in the final of the 2025 South Wiltshire Cup. We were beaten by a strong Amesbury side in the final after dominating the group stage.

While the 50s were progressing, the 60s were making waves of a different kind by winning the Fair Play award for their age group, which was based on referee reports on each match.

18 May 2025

Storm and Thunder complete historic season

Storm and Thunder finished a historical season for Dexter Sports Walking Football Club. It was the first time we’d entered two teams into the same walking football age group (50s).

Our league positions (7th and 8th) may not have been what we’d hoped for at the end of the season, but we’d had some decent highlights.

20 May 2025

DSWFC signs defib

After the tragic events of February, DSWFC added a portable defibrillator to its squad. Wherever we play, it’s there, by the side of the pitch – training or tournament.

Let’s hope we never need to use it. 🤞

Dexter Sports FPL 2024/25

Walking footballer wins Dexter Sports FPL

For the second season in-a-row a DSWFC player won the Dexter Sports Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-league. You might know FPL better as fantasy football.

1 June 2025

300 Facebook followers

Just over two months after reaching 250 Facebook followers, we hit 300 on the first day of June.

8 June 2025

Storm: League Cup Runners-up

After topping the group phase, winning three, drawing one, and conceding no goals, Dexter’s Storm made the final of the Dorset Walking Football League Cup.

In the final, Storm kept another clean-sheet but lost on penalties to Dorchester. This was our 50s second runners-up medal in four weeks (after the South Wiltshire Cup). 🎖️

29 June 2025

Four Dorset representatives

We were delighted to have four 50s players represent Dorset in Devon. Those players were Luke Hitchen, Gary Craig, Billy Bulloch, and Mark Kay.

DSWFC 10th Anniversary celebrations

2025 marked the tenth anniversary of Dexter Sports Walking Football Club. Paul Kybert is still very much a large part of the the club, and he started it all way back in 2015.

To mark this momentous achievement, DSWFC held a celebratory Summer tournament at our home venue (the County Ground, Hamworthy). Fifteen teems took part, from as far away as London.

The day was such a success there’s been talk of making it a regular date in the walking football calendar.

3 August 2025

DSWFC qualify for the FAWFC Regional Finals

The 50s and 60s both qualified for the FA Walking Football Cup South West Regional Finals. The 50s won the Dorset qualifying tournament to secure their spot.

The route to the regional finals for the 60s squad was less straightforward! They were runners-up in Dorset qualifying, but the winners, Dorchester, dropped out and so the 60s found their way in through the back door.

7 September 2025

FAWFC South West Regional Finals

Both 50s and 60s squads travelled down to Exeter University in a minibus for the South West Regional Finals of the FA Walking Football Cup.

The DSWFC 50s made it all the way to the final before losing out to Torquay United who had also topped the Group Stage. For those keeping count, that’s three runners-up medals in four months for the 50s!

Having qualified through the back door, the 60s came up against strong squads and their journey ended in the Group Stage.

25 September 2025

Billy Watch: Lands End to John o’Groats

Over the course of two weeks in September, our 50s goalkeeper, Billy Bulloch, cycled from Lands End to John o’Groats for charity. That’s about 1,000 miles at an average of 71 miles a day for 14 days!

Billy raised an incredible £3,675 for Diverse Abilities who are “… Dorset’s disability charity supporting children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities across the county since 1955.”

The start of a new season

The 2025/26 Dorset Walking Football League season started in early October with our two 50s squads hosting the opening league tournament at the County Ground in Hamworthy.

As well as two teams in the 50s, DSWFC also have a team in the 60’s and 65’s leagues as well – that’s four teams across three age groups. To keep up to date with the results and tables bookmark our League Tables page.

Or, how about following one (or all) of our age groups through the season…

Local celebrity joins training 🎙️

I’m pretty sure Cliffe wouldn’t describe himself as a local celebrity, but anything for a decent looking headline!

For many months Darren Snell had been trying to persuade Cliffe to come along and experience walking football. Eventually, after all those months Cliffe was worm down and came to see what it was like. And now, he’s hooked.

So hooked that he invited Paul (Kybert) and Andy (Madden) onto his radio show – The Hope FM Football Show.

29 October 2025

Mervyn “75 years” Young

At the end of October, two days before Hallowe’en, our oldest player turned 75. Take a bow the ironically named Mervyn Young. 👏🏼

As well as playing for Dexter’s 70s, Merv plays for AFC Bournemouth in the Southern League, and is a member Coasters 70s which is a club team made up of players from Dorset clubs.

2 November 2025

DSWFC and Toko Robbins make history

We were proud again in early November to be making history once more. When Toko Robbins played for 50s Thunder in November, she was the first woman to play in the Dorset Walking Football League (DWFL) 50s division.

It’s not widely known that the DWFL is open to all genders. Our quickly growing version of the beautiful game isn’t new to Toko, she’s the organiser and inspiration behind Lilliput Womens Walking Football Club.

65s go top of the tree 🎄

After a cracking start to the season, the DSWFC 65s secured top spot in the Dorset Walking Football League for Christmas.

21 November 2025

Club and league ban micro shin pads

After an upsetting injury at the Bridport vs Ilfracombe match a few days before. our parent club, Dexter Sports, banned the use of micro shin pads. The Dorset Walking Football League followed suit just after that.

From that time, the wearing of appropriate shin protection was made compulsory for all matches and training sessions across all age groups for DSWFC.
