FA Walking Football Cup 2025 – 60s Regional Finals

Intro and tournament report by John Gray

After Dorchester relinquished their place to Dexter’s Eagles, I’d been looking forward to the Regional Finals for four weeks. As the 50’s had won their group in Dorset Qualifying we had around 20 players and supporters making the trip, so we hired a minibus and made a day of it.

We started our road-trip at 8am on a pleasant Sunday morning. But soon dark clouds rolled in with thunder, lightning and heavy rain – the rain would continue for most of the day! We arrived at Exeter University around 11am in the minibus, with our support vehicle (containing Andy and Kate Madden, plus Paul Gillis).

Dexter’s Eagles Tournament Report

The fixtures were announced on the day. Unfortunately, most of our fixtures clashed with the 50s matches, so supporting each other was tricky.

Our first game was against Penwith nomads, the team representing Cornwall, who ran out 2-1 winners after the referee gave them a helping hand with a penalty for 4 not-walking offences. Andy Wilson scored our solitary goal.

The next game was a close affair with Plymouth Argyle. Unfortunately, we conceded a late goal to lose 1-0. Our next match was against Swindon Walking Football, who were very vocal! We lost that one as well, 2-0. The last game was against the eventual tournament winners Western (Somerset), losing 2-0 again.

It wasn’t a good day for the 60’s. We played some good football, but the other teams took their chances. Thanks to Andy and Kate madden, The Pauls Gillis and Kybert, and the wounded Dave Reeve for their support from the side-lines.”
