65s: Playing to Form

Created with Sketch.

Just a: 5 minute read

With the advent of Spring comes the final throes of the 2024/25 season. Round Five in Bournemouth was the penultimate tournament in DSWFC’s first foray in the 65s Dorset Walking Football League.

Unfortunately, Dorchester weren’t able to make the round, so all the other teams received a 1-0 walkover win. Ahead of Dorchester’s non-appearance, we were just three points ahead of them in the table, so this was an opportunity to cement our place in the top three.

DSWFC Matchday Squad

Andy Madden, Merv Young, David Bacall (GK, captain), Jonathan Martin, Clive Robinson, Peter Kane, Peter Cherryman and Paul Kybert

Weymouth (2-0)

B’mouth Reds (0-1)

B’mouth Whites (1-0)

Eastleigh (0-2)

A nine point haul is quite satisfying and the realisation we’re the divisions’ second highest scorers with one round to go is also super encouraging.

Talking of that final round, we need just four points to secure third spot in the table. If B’mouth Reds have a below par final round then runner-up is possible, but unlikely.

Paul Kybert, DSWFC 65s Manager

“It was good to have David back in goal and he demonstrated what we missed in previous rounds with some great saves and distribution of the ball.

There were great passing moves during the matches and some good possession. The work rate and defensive effort particularly in the Eastleigh and Reds games were great to see.

A special mention also goes to Andy for turning out when he clearly wasn’t 100% but came along to give us a sub for the first time in several rounds.”

David Bacall, Dexters 65s Captain

“The team played really well and to form – we lost to the teams above us but beat the teams below us. I thought we could have easily got something from the Bournemouth game and given we were 0-0 at half time with Eastleigh the penalty was a turning point.”

Peter Cherryman, DSWFC 65s player

“We aren’t that far away from getting a result against Eastleigh which shows how we are improving.”

Mark Kay, DSWFC 50s player

“One Davey Bacall, there’s only one Davey Bacall.” 👏

Top Scorers

After five league rounds and 25 matches, the Dexter’s 65s scorers list looks like this:

  1. Andy Madden (10 goals)
  2. Peter Kane (7)
  3. Merv Young (3)
  4. Brian Greenwood, Mark Ciano, and Peter Cherryman (all 1 each)
