The Premier League, european competitions and the FA Cup are all coming to an end for the Summer, but that’s not the case with walking football – we just keep on going!
OK, we know about Euro ’24 and other sports are available, but there’s just something about playing football isn’t there? My point is, walking football doesn’t have an off season – we continue to train and play tournaments right through the Summer, until the next Dorset League starts in September(ish).
Warmer weather
With warmer, dryer weather on the way, perhaps you’d like to join us for a spot of football in a friendly, safety first environment. We train on Friday evenings (7pm) at the home of the Dorset FA – County Ground in Hamworthy.
First session is free
Your first session is free, to see what it’s about, then each session after that is £5. If you fancy coming along, drop Paul a line – he can tell you all you need to know. We regularly have over 20 players attend training on a Friday.

I joined a few months ago and I feel that Dexter's is very well run and everyone there has made me feel welcome. I really enjoy the training at Hamworthy … More and Canford heath. When I was lying in my hospital bed following my heart transplant I was dreaming of playing football again and Dexter's has helped that become a reality. I would like thoroughly recommend it.

Two months ago, upon learning that my 63-year-old father would be visiting me and meeting his newborn granddaughter, I thought it would be wonderful for … More him to join a local football club, given his passion for the sport. In Thailand, he regularly plays football with his group of friends, and I hoped he could find a similar experience here, allowing him to make new connections and continue doing what he loves.
With this in mind, I posted in the Poole community group, and Dexter graciously welcomed my father to join the team immediately. I consider myself fortunate to have found the Dextor group.
On behalf of myself and my father, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Dexter Football Club for being so welcoming, especially to Paul, whose kindness and support have meant so much to my father. The entire team has been incredibly friendly and accommodating.
Although his time here was brief, only one month, it was a truly meaningful and enriching experience for my father. He will certainly miss the team, and should he have the opportunity to visit the UK again, he looks forward to rejoining you all for another game.
Thank you again for everything.

Very welcoming club. Newbie to walking footy but that didn’t matter. Players of all shapes ages and of varying ability and fitness. For me a great welcome … More back to team sport and a great way to end a week. Feel really at home after just two sessions. A+

A nicely run club, friendly team mates with a good committee. It’s up to you whether you simply want a kick about once a week or stay on for extra coaching … More sessions, or enter competitions with one of the clubs tournament sides. Social meet ups as an added bonus.

Can honestly say walking football was not for me… until I caved in and tried it thanks to the influence of two old friends… aside from the outstanding … More set up, genuine friendliness and sense of humour of everyone at Dexters (and the iconic kit) the actual football is fantastic fun and brilliantly competitive!! Looking forward to the new season for the first time in 20 odd years!! 👍👍

We’ve just completed the 2023/24 Dorset Walking Football League, in which we entered a 50s and 60s team. Tournaments aren’t compulsory, but there for anyone who’d like to represent the club. If all you want is to train and make new friends, that’s just fine.
What’s coming up
We have three tournaments lined up for May and June already, including a charity event for Prostate Cancer UK, a friendly tournament in Devon and the Dorset League Cup in early June. We’re also encouraging players along to our Women’s Walking Football sessions with Lilliput FC on Tuesday evenings in Rossmore.
Oh, and we mustn’t forget the end of season get-together!
The physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise are well known. If you’re interested in playing football in a friendly, safety first environment, get in touch with Dexter Sports Walking Football Club now…
