Charity Tournament: Prostate Cancer

Created with Sketch.

The league season may be over, but walking football carrys on regardless, with training and three tournaments in just 22 days! First up is a charity tournament in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

On Saturday 18 May we’ll be heading up to Dorchester for the charity tournament being organised by the Dorchester Walking Football Club.

As I write this, there’ll be eight or nine teams entering the tournament, which was also held just before Christmas last year, raising a decent £766, again, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Update (17 May 2024) – there will be eight teams representing Dorchester, Sherborne, Weymouth and of course Dexter Sports. We’ll be entering two teams.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. The risk is even higher for black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.”

The tournament is being played in Dorchester Town’s home ground, Avenue Stadium. The bar’s open all day, there’s a Penalty Shootout competition as well as a raffle. In the evening there’s a disco at the Colliton Club & Bar.

Obviously the star attraction will be the football. All supporters are welcome, entry is free and the tournament starts at 11am. The teams are mixed age, with all players being over 50.

The tournament is being sponsored by Dorchester Timber, Brewer & Sons and Travis Perkins.

In case you’re wondering, the other two tournaments (in 22 days) are a tournament in Dawlish, Devon (27 May) and the Dorset League Cup (9 June).
