Until now, Dexter Sports Walking Football Club has been all about men. It’s not been through design, but “just the way it is”. Well, we’d like that to change that and get women involved. Find out what we’re doing, what we’ve planned and how you can get involved.
Women’s football has grown in popularity over the last few years. The success of The Lionesses at the World Cup last year, winning the Euros in 2022 and an increase in followers of the Women’s Super League has fired interest in women’s football at grassroots level as well.
Of course, not everyone is cut out for the physical demands of 90 minutes on a full size pitch, being clattered and running themselves into the ground! That’s where Dexter Sports Walking Football Club comes in.
If you’re a woman, interested in getting back to football (or even playing for the first time), or simply looking to get fitter and make some friends, then we’d love to welcome you to one of our sessions.
What’s happening now?
Equal Game workshop
Dexter Sports were represented recently in an Equal Game workshop organised by England Football. Equal Game offer help and support in attracting female players to football clubs.
Women only training sessions
After conversations with Lilliput FC Women’s Walking Football Club, we’re excited to announce Dexter’s players have been invited to join their women only sessions. This is an ideal opportunity for us, until we have enough players to hold women only sessions of our own. We thank Lilliput FC and their manager, Toko Robbins, for their continued support.
The sessions are £3 (cash) per session and are held on 3G pitches at Rossmore on Tuesday evenings (7pm – 8pm). You’ll be sharing the training session with female only players from Lilliput FC Walking Football Club. To find out more drop us a line.
What’s planned?
Lilliput FC Women’s Walking Football Club
Dexter Sports will continue to have discussions with Lilliput FC Womens Walking Football Club, to find out more about what works and doesn’t work for their club. Lilliput will be entering the brand new Dorset Women’s Walking Football League in the 2024/25 season.
Just Play
Just Play is an initiative run by England Football. It offers help and advice to clubs hoping to expand into different forms of the beautiful game. We’ll shortly be contacting Just Play to see what help and support they can offer.
Competitive Football
The Dorset Womens Walking Football League will be launched in September this year. We’d love to have Dexter Sports involved in that. The rules state players must be 40 years of age, or older. Maybe we can even attract enough players to compete in that 2024/25 launch season?
How do I get involved?
It’s the start of an exciting new chapter for Dexter Sports – and you have the opportunity to be there from the start. Get in touch, come along to one of the women-only sessions, and get on board for the ride.
