Do you have questions about walking football?
For most people, walking football is a new concept. You might not realise it’s actually been around since 2011. That aside, we imagine you have lots of questions.
We’ve selected some of the most asked ones here. If we’ve still been unable to help here, please contact us and ask whatever you like.
Can anyone play walking football?
Walking football is suitable for all ages and energy levels. Regardless of your fitness and endurance, the slower pace of walking football makes it accessible to a wider audience than traditional football.
However, if you want to be considered for our league teams there are age limits. Anyone playing in the 50s team must be at least 50 years old, while anyone playing in the 60s team must be at least 60 years old.
How is walking football different to the standard game?
There are several differences and most have player safety in mind. For example, walking football is played at a slower pace and if someone runs, that is given as a foul.
The ball must remain below head height, so no heading. Also there is no contact, with tackling from the side and behind also not allowed. We always play on a 3G surface, so no muddy or icy pitches to contend with.
How can I give walking football a try?

What is Spond?
We use an app called Spond to manage Dexter Sports Walking Football Club activities. We add events and tournaments to the calendar – you’ll receive invitations to those calendar entries, which you’ll be expected accept or reject. The app can also be used to message other members of the club, or create your own posts for others to see – it’s a bit like a social media website, like Facebook.
We also use Spond to monitor players attendance to training and tournaments. At the end of each month a request is sent to each member for payment, based on what you’ve attended. Spond can also be used on a laptop (or PC), but really it works best if used on a mobile phone.
How, what and when do I pay?
Each training session and tournament you attend is charged at £5. At the end of each month a list of who owes how much is shared on Spond. Then you have the opportunity to pay what you owe using bank transfer to the below bank account details. Payment by any other method isn’t accepted.
