The new 60s season kicked off on a Sunday teatime in mid-October. This season there are nine teams competing with Wimborne joining the league for the first time.
The rain was supposed to stop around lunchtime – it’s fair to say it didn’t, and the wind was pretty unpleasant. Despite that all teams turned up and the Dorset Walking Football League 60s started in soggy style.

DSWFC Tournament report
Our opening tie of the season was against Weymouth. We went ahead with a fine strike by Brian (Hooper), but then our nemesis struck early in the campaign… four non-walking offences!! The Terras dispatched the penalty and we’d thrown away two points. A 1-1 draw to take into our second match…
That would be against last season’s third place team, Swanage. This was another draw, only this time 0-0, but there was more penalty drama! A spot-kick was awarded when one of the Swans players encroached into his own area. Unfortunately, Andy (Madden) was unable to convert the chance and another two points went the way of a penalty outcome.
Andy’s redemption opportunity came in the next match against Sherborne. With the game heading towards another goalless deadlock, Andy was fouled in the last minute. The referee deemed the tackle to be worthy of a penalty – yep, a third penalty in three matches to start the season! This time Andy showed great character and composure to find the net and secure a 1-0 win in the last minute.
It’s never easy playing Eastleigh, and it proved that way again in our final fixture of the day. A 2-0 reverse was a disappointing way to end an evening which had shown so much promise and could’ve seen us collect a few more points. However, five points from four matches is good enough to be nestled up behind the pacesetters in the early league table.
Overall I’m pleased with the performances in all the games tonight. It was a somewhat challenging night with the rain and wind being in attendance. Many thanks to everyone that helped with the setting up and clearing away of the pitches afterwards. Also, a big thank you for all the encouragement from the Dexter’s players, both 50s and 60s on the sidelines.”

League Overview
Defending champions, Bournemouth Reds got off to good start, continuing where they left off last season with three 1-0 wins and a draw with Swanage. Weymouth and Eastleigh are also unbeaten after four matches.
Wimborne had a promising start to life in the Dorset Walking Football League. They held Eastleigh 0-0 in their first match, before losing to Bournemouth Reds and Weymouth (both 1-0) before seeing off Dorchester in what appears to have been a belter, 3-2.
Special mention for Swanage who drew all four matches. On that note, 50% of the matches were drawn in this opening round – that’s nine matches out of 18. It could be a tight division if it continues all season.
